A QUOTE

When God’s Word tells us that we are His image-bearers, it wants us to know not that we have certain qualities or abilities which remain vague and difficult to relate to the bread and butter of daily living, but that we, in the very way we are put together, in our whole way of living and acting, must give a reflection of the king whom we serve…” - Henry Fernhout

A TEXT POST

The Valley of Tomorrow

I will have been in Chicago for three weeks come Friday. Three weeks of grueling job searching, information packed meetings and training sessions, bonding with wonderful people and learning more about the Lord and this “big picture” He’s painting.

Now just to preface this post, I’m on summer project for Campus Crusade for Christ in Chicago and I’ll be here til August 12th. I’m here with about 70 students and 30 staff who are leaving us students to fend for ourselves in two weeks time. At that time, students will run project and we’re gonna take on the city.

This project has done the job of forcing me to look at my life in the “big picture” and reflect on the million different factors that make me who I am today.  Mistakes, traits, mannerisms, groups of friends, close friends, education, financial status, gifts, talents, faults. I’ve no choice but to think hard about what things to come I will let shape me.  But when I get to look at the “big picture” and examine my place in the painting, I have the privilege of realizing the only factor I need to shape me is Christ within me.

I forget that Christ has the power change lives completely.  Not just that, but He changes people to exactly what we need to be and more importantly, what He wants us to be.  I don’t have to define myself or my state by what I’ve done. I’m no longer tied down by sin but I am liberated by Christ’s transformation in me.

I’ve named this post “Valley of Tomorrow” because of the simple fact that I can look to tomorrow and know that I will be better than I am today because of Christ. Tomorrow is one step closer to Christ and another step further from my former self.
